02/07/2019: Congratulation to Yamei Han and Zhimin Hu for that their paper entitled “Post-translational regulation of lipogenesis via AMPK-dependent phosphorylation of insulin-induced gene” published at Nature Communications. The study discovered that AMPK interacts with and mediates phosphorylation of Insig. AMPK-dependent phosphorylation ablates Insig’s interaction with E3 ubiquitin ligase gp78 and represses its ubiquitination and degradation, whereas AMPK deficiency shows opposite effects. These findings indicate that Insig stabilization may be responsible for metformin’s salutary effects on lowering hepatic steatosis, and uncover a novel effector of AMPK. Targeting Insig may have the therapeutic potential for treating fatty liver disease and related disorders.

05/16/2019: Congratulation to Dr. Zehua Zhao for that his paper entitled “Indole-3-propionic acid inhibits gut dysbiosis and endotoxin leakage to attenuate steatohepatitis in rats” published in Experimental & Molecular Medicine. The study demonstrates the salutary effects and underlying mechanisms of indole-3-propionic acid (IPA) on attenuating hepatic inflammation and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

06/10/2019: Dr. Yu Li gave two oral presentations entitled “CREBZF as a novel target of glucose sensing signaling in the control of adaptive thermogenesis in the adipose tissue” and “Myeloid CREBZF couples inflammatory signals to systemic insulin resistance by regulating immune response of the adipose tissue” at the American Diabetes Association (ADA)’s 79th scientific meeting in San Francisco, CA, USA.

07/26/2019: Congratulation to Dr. Zhimin Hu for that his paper entitled “CREBZF as a key Regulator of STAT3 Pathway in the Control of Liver Regeneration in Mice” published in Hepatology. The study characterizes CREBZF as a coregulator of STAT3 to inhibit liver regenerative capacity, which may represent an essential cellular signal to maintain standard liver mass.

07/31/2019: Li lab collaborates with Natural Medicine Institute of Zhejiang Yangshengtang Co Ltd on the study of mechanisms of liver injury and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

08/12/2019: Drs. Feng Liu and Juli Bai from University of Texas, San Antonio, TX, USA were invited to give two talks entitled “Mitochondrial stress and cGAS signaling in regulating immunity and metabolism” and “Novel mechanisms of miR-182-5p in regulating beige fat” hosted by Dr. Yu Li at Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health, CAS, Shanghai.

09/17/2019:  Yaqian Xue introduces the Rosella-Green tea extract with salutary effects on obesity and diabetes at the 21st China International Industry Fair (CIIF) at National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, a leading event on equipment manufacturing in China.                     

11/20/2019: Li Lab attended the Chinese Diabetes Association (CDS)’s 23th scientific meeting in Xiamen. Dr. Yu Li was invited to give a talk entitled “Novel targets for treating diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease”.

11/26/2019: Dr. Hai-Bin Ruan from the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology Center for Immunology, University of Minnesota Medical School, MN, USA was invited to give a talk entitled “Mechanisms of adipose tissue remodeling in obesity and aging” hosted by Dr. Yu Li at Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health, CAS, Shanghai.
