Research in the Li laboratory comes from an effort to identify molecular mechanisms connecting nutrient availability to cell metabolism. His lab utilizes biochemistry and genetic mouse models to study signaling networks that are deregulated in type 2 diabetes and NAFLD. His work is focused on elucidating mechanisms of key factors of nutrient sensing and metabolic regulation in the liver and adipose tissue. The ultimate goal is to unravel potential therapeutic targets for treating insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and obesity.

INNOVATIVE APPROACHES

Histopathological examination of diseased tissues for the accurate diagnosis of diseases using microscopy, such as light microscope or electron microscope.

Immunofluorescence of cultured cell lines, individual cells or tissue sections for visualizing the distribution of the target molecule, such as proteins, glycans, and small biological and non-biological molecules.

PET/CT combines both PET imaging of metabolic or biochemical activity using fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) with anatomic imaging obtained by CT scanning.
