05/26/2023: Congratulation to Shuang Wei and Wenjing Li for receiving Merit Student Award (三好学生), SINH, CAS.

05/30/2023: Congratulation to Drs. Yaqian Xue and Aoyuan Cui for the publication of the article entitled “Proline hydroxylation of CREB-regulated transcriptional coactivator 2 controls hepatic glucose metabolism” in Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A (2023, 120(23):e2219419120). This article identified a unique PHD3-dependent hydroxylation of CRTC2, a key regulator of gluconeogenesis, in the regulation of hepatic gluconeogenesis. Upon fasting, Pro129 and Pro615 hydroxylation of CRTC2 by PHD3 enhances its association with CREB and increases the nuclear translocation and transcriptional activity of CRTC2, leading to enhanced hepatic glucose production. Pharmacological and genetic approaches for the modulation of PHD3 activity or CRTC2 hydroxylation may provide therapeutic avenues for treating hyperglycemia and type 2 diabetes.

06/13/2023: Dr. Yu Li was invited to attend at the 2023 Project Promotion Meeting of National Key R&D Program of China and Youth Forum on Development and Metabolism, which are organized by Endocrine and Metabolism Society affiliated to Pathophysiology Society of China, Suzhou.

07/28/2023: Li Lab attended the 6th Research Conference of Metabolic Biology Society affiliated to Biophysical Society of China, Zhengzhou.

12/17/2023: Join the Li Lab’s Christmas party and celebrate the 11th Anniversary of the Li Lab. This time Li Lab traveled to Sanya, Hainan, where they enjoyed themselves and had spent five very chill and memorable days .

They went to Yalong Bay Forest Park (亚龙湾森林公园), where they experienced the scenery of the tropical rainforest and viewed the climate of the sun rain. They also went to see the beautiful Yalong Bay beach and enjoyed the unique and unparalleled natural settings, sands, crystal sea water, endless seashore and pristine vegetation, they also swam in the sea together and had a happy time. They experienced a lot of water rides at Wuzhizhou Island (蜈支洲岛) and Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark respectively. The exciting rides and slides gave them an adrenaline rush, they broke through and challenged themselves with the Neptune's Leap (海神之跃) and Let's Let Go (放手一搏), the rides that are close to free-fall, which is a very memorable experience. They also held the Li Lab annual meeting at the Mangrove Resort (红树林度假村), where everyone fully expressed their bright expectations for the future of the Li Lab and made a lot of constructive suggestions.

In addition to the beautiful scenery and interesting sea programs, they also tasted a lot of Sanya specialties. Various kinds of fresh seafood and special rice noodles greatly satisfied their taste buds. Coconut chicken (椰子鸡) and hotpot with dregs of vinegar (糟粕醋火锅) made them enjoy the unique flavor of this subtropical island. Coconuts in the night market and Qingbuliang (清补凉) everywhere let them experience the unique happiness of summer in winter.

This five-day trip not only allowed them to relax and feel the warmth from thetropics in the cold winter, but also made the whole lab more cohesive and everyone became closer partners. This is a very precious memory for the Li Lab members and we hope the lab have a brighter future.

01/03/2023: Congratulation to Fengguang Ma for the publication of the article entitled “Intrahepatic osteopontin signaling by CREBZF defines a checkpoint for steatosis-to-NASH progression.” in Hepatology (2023, 78(5):1492-1505). This article showed that CREBZF was a key mechanism of liver fibrosis checkpoint that promoted hepatocyte injury and exacerbated diet-induced NASH in mice. As the conclusion, Osteopontin signaling by CREBZF represents a previously unrecognized intrahepatic mechanism that triggers liver fibrosis and contributes to the severity of NASH.
