04/08/2024: Congratulation to Aoyuan Cui, Weitong Su and Yaqian Xue for the publication of the article entitled "Glucose regulation of adipose tissue browning by CBP/p300- and HDAC3-mediated reversible acetylation of CREBZF" in Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A  (2024 Apr 16;121(16):e2318935121). When stimulated by low temperature and environmental signals, adipocytes will take up a large amount of glucose, which on the one hand can be used as an energy-supplying substance to directly provide energy for adipocytes, and on the other hand, glucose signaling increases the acetylation modification and protein stability of CREBZF through CBP/p300. This study suggests that CREBZF is a key factor in the sensing glucose signaling pathway, and the dysregulation of glucose sensing by CREBZF plays an important role in the development of obesity and related metabolic diseases caused by energy overconsumption.

01/29/2024: Congratulation to Yuxiao Liu, Weitong Su and Zhengshuai Liu for the publication of the article entitled “Macrophage CREBZF Orchestrates Inflammatory Response to Potentiate Insulin Resistance and Type 2 Diabetes” in Advanced Science (2024 Apr;11(13):e2306685). In obesity development, hyperactivation of macrophage CREBZF increases NF-κB signaling pathway activity by competitively binding p65 with IκBα, thereby accelerating adipose tissue chronic inflammatory response and insulin resistance. This study identifies a previously unknown role of CREBZF coupling ATM activation to systemic insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

12/11/2024: Congratulation to Dr. Yang Jiang and Shuang Wei for the publication of the article entitled “Ethyl Lactate Ameliorates Hepatic Steatosis and Acute-on-Chronic Liver Injury in Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease by Inducing Fibroblast Growth Factor 21” in Advanced Science (2024 Dec 11:e2409516.). Aberrant upregulation of hepatic lipogenesis induced by chronic and excessive alcohol consumption is a critical driver of the progression of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). It is shown that the activator ethyl lactate, a nonethanol ingredient found in distilled liquors, ameliorates alcoholic hepatosteatosis, inflammation and acute-on-chronic liver injury by stimulating FGF21. The regulatory mechanism is discussed during the pathophysiological conditions and suggests new lines of research into the therapeutic use of a foodborne small molecule ethyl lactate.

12/20/2024: The Lilab team embarked on an exhilarating five-day, four-night team-building retreat to the tropical paradise of Phuket, Thailand(泰国普吉岛). This adventure was not just a break from the daily grind but an opportunity for team members to bond, learn, and grow together in an environment that fostered creativity and unity.

Day 1: Arrival and Orientation

Upon arrival, the team was greeted by the warm, tropical air and the lush greenery that Phuket is famous for. After checking into Patong Cultural Heritage Hotel(芭东文化遗址酒店), the team was briefed on the exciting itinerary that lay ahead. The anticipation was palpable as everyone looked forward to the adventures that awaited them.

Day 2: Island Hopping and Snorkeling(跳岛和浮潜)

The second day was dedicated to island hopping and snorkeling, activities that allowed the team to explore the breathtaking underwater world of Phuket. Armed with snorkels and diving masks(呼吸管和面镜), the Lilab members dove into the crystal-clear waters, marveling at the vibrant coral reefs and the diverse marine life. The experience was not only thrilling but also educational, as team members learned about the importance of marine conservation and the delicate balance of the ecosystem.

As they hopped from island to island, the team shared laughter and stories, their bonds strengthening with each shared experience. The joy of discovery was evident on their faces as they floated above the water, taking in the wonders beneath them.

Day 3: Seafood Feast(海鲜大餐) and Cultural Exploration

On the third day, the team indulged in a seafood feast that was a true testament to Phuket's culinary prowess in. Freshly caught fish, succulent prawns, and a variety of other seafood delicacies were served, delighting the taste buds of the Lilab team. The meal was not just about satisfying their appetites but also about experiencing the rich cultural heritage of Thai cuisine.

Following the feast, the team embarked on a cultural exploration of the island in Phuket town(普吉镇), visiting local markets, temples(查龙寺), and historical sites. This immersive experience allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the local way of life and the traditions that have shaped Phuket's identity.

Day 4: Surfing and Kayaking(冲浪和皮划艇)

The fourth day brought a surge of adrenaline with surfing and kayaking adventures. The Lilab team faced the waves with determination and excitement, learning to ride the swells and navigate the waters(乘风破浪). Surfing not only tested their physical abilities but also their mental fortitude, as they learned to balance and synchronize their movements with the rhythm of the ocean.

In the afternoon, the team switched to kayaking, a more serene activity that allowed them to explore the coastline at a slower pace. Paddling in sync, they enjoyed the tranquility of the water and the beauty of the island's natural landscape.

As the sun began to set, the team retreated to the tranquility of a Thai massage parlor(泰式按摩). The day's physical exertion made the massage even more rewarding, as the team members relaxed their muscles and minds, reflecting on the day's achievements and the growing camaraderie among them.

Day 5: Live Fire Shooting Experience(实弹射击)

The final day of the retreat was reserved for a unique and thrilling experience: live fire shooting. The team members were introduced to the basics of firearm safety and handling before moving on to the shooting range. Under the supervision of professional instructors, they fired a variety of weapons, experiencing the adrenaline rush of hitting targets with precision.

This activity was not only about the excitement of shooting but also about trust and responsibility. Team members had to rely on each other for safety and encouragement, further strengthening the bonds formed throughout the retreat.

The Phuket retreat was more than just a vacation; it was a transformative experience for the Lilab team. Through island hopping, snorkeling, indulging in seafood feasts, conquering the waves with surfing and kayaking, and experiencing the thrill of live fire shooting, the team members not only enjoyed themselves but also forged stronger relationships that will undoubtedly contribute to the success of their future projects. As they return to their respective roles, they do so with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the value of teamwork and collaboration.
